EETS on-board unit (European Electronic Toll Service)

Migrate to EETS now

EETS is aimed at making it easier for users of the service to pay the tolls for using the European road network in member states of the European Union (EU), by means of a contract with an EETS provider, an on-board unit and an invoice.

In order to be able to use EETS in Switzerland, foreign carriers must conclude a contract with one of the FOCBS's officially approved providers. The officially approved providers are the following ones:

Further providers are currently still in the approval procedure.

Further information and provisions can be found in the directive R 15-02-03 (PDF, 862 kB, 01.05.2020) below.

ID card issues only until 31 March 2025 in connection with the processing terminal only until 31 May 2025

New ID cards will only be issued until 31 March 2025.

The charge is levied using an identification card (ID card) and PRHVC processing terminals. For this purpose, the customs office records the data relevant to the PRHVC using the vehicle documents when the vehicle enters Switzerland/the Principality of Liechtenstein for the first time, and issues a vehicle-specific ID card. New ID cards will only be issued until 31 March 2025.

The processing terminals will be decommissioned by 31 May 2025.

Upon each entry thereafter, a receipt is obtained at the processing terminal once the required data (km reading, trailer status and means of payment) has been entered. Upon exit, this receipt must be completed with the km reading, signed and handed in at the customs office.

PRHVC processing terminals are located at almost all border crossings. Simple on-screen operating instructions and a large selection of languages enable drivers to find their way around without assistance from the outset.

Further information and provisions can be found in the directive R 15-02-03 (PDF, 862 kB, 01.05.2020) below.

The following debit/credit cards are accepted:

  • Debit cards: ec-direct, edc-maestro, Postcard

As of 01 January 2025, the installation, replacement and maintenance of Emotach® recording devices will be stopped. Non-defective devices may continue to be used until 31 December 2025 at the latest.

Foreign holders who already have an ID card can opt to equip their vehicles with a PRHVC on-board unit. In addition to operating the unit correctly, it is also necessary to:

  • open a PRHVC account with the FOCBS (against the provision of sufficient security)
  • to have an on-board unit installed at the holder's own expense at an authorised workshop (installation point) in Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The trip data is directly collected upon each exit (radio beacon communication) and the charge is invoiced monthly.

Further information and provisions can be found in the directive R 15-02-03 (PDF, 862 kB, 01.05.2020) below.

HVC III; NETS National Electronic Toll Service

The national electronic toll service (NETS) ensures that data is collected in Switzerland as part of the LSVA collection process. The NETS can only be used for data collection in the LSVA domain (Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein) and is not interoperable with toll collection in other toll domains (countries).

On behalf of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS), NATRAS AG will provide this service free of charge as the national NETS provider. From 1 June 2025, the NATRAS AG service will also be available to owners of foreign-registered vehicles. The basic requirement is registration as an LSVA business partner on the ePortal of the FOCBS. In addition, vehicles must also be registered on this platform. Furthermore, registration with NATRAS AG, including commissioning.

HVC III; NMTS National Manual Toll Service as of 01 April 2025 (Web Shop Solution)

The NMTS is available for vehicles without an EETS or NETS solution.
With this manual web shop solution, every single journey must be registered
before entering the LSVA domain (Switzerland or the Principality of
Liechtenstein). This service will be available from 01. April 2025.

The following data must be entered when registering a journey:

  • country of registration
  • number plate
  • EURO emission class
  • total weight of the vehicle combination in kg
  • date of entry into the LSVA domain
  • date of exit from the LSVA domain
  • distance travelled in the LSVA domain in kilometers

This data must be entered
again each time a vehicle for a journey is registered.

The registration can be
made up to five days before entering the LSVA domain. It can be changed or
cancelled up to the point of entry. This allows registration by the fleet
dispatcher as part of route planning or by the driver themselves in the vehicle
on a smartphone before entering.

The registration is only
valid if payment of the LSVA is guaranteed. This is done online in the web shop
with a fuel card or credit card or a debit card that can be used for internet
purchases. If the charge is to be paid in cash, the driver must go to the FOCBS
office at the border before entering the LSVA domain and pay the expected
charge amount in cash. Without a valid registration, the vehicle is not allowed
to enter the LSVA domain. Cash payment is not possible at all border crossings.

When the vehicle is
entering the LSVA domain, the registration is partially activated and only the
total weight of the vehicle combination can be corrected upwards and the
distance in both direc-tions.

When making a cash payment,
the driver must again visit the FOCBS office when leaving the LSVA domain if he
wishes to amend his registration in order to settle any difference arising in
the amount of the charge already paid.

When an electronic means of
payment is used, the total weight and distance can be corrected up to a maximum
of five days after leaving the LSVA domain. The registration is then activated,
as-sessed and the amount of charge due is debited to the means of payment used.

The following debit/credit
cards are accepted:

  • Debit cards: ec-direct, edc-maestro, Postcard
  • Credit cards: American Express, Diners-Club, Eurocard, Visa-Card

The fuel cards that have
been accepted so far must go through an approval process for the new web shop
solution. The FOCBS will in due course list the fuel cards approved for the web
shop here. If you want to find out whether you can continue to use your fuel
card, please contact your fuel card provider.
