The United Kingdom (UK) left the EU on 31 January 2020. This marked the beginning of the so-called «transition period» provided for in the Withdrawal Agreement, which ended on 31 December 2020. The trade agreement concluded with the UK as part of Switzerland's «Mind the Gap» strategy entered into force on 1 January 2021. The trade agreement transfers several relevant agreements with the EU to the relationship between Switzerland and the UK, including the Free Trade Agreement (1972).
