The highlights of 2023 included the introduction of Passar and the e-vignette.

The first version of the new Passar goods traffic system was launched on 1 June 2023. In this first phase, three commercial operations linked to international transit were put into operation with Passar. Several other stages in the export and import fields will follow between now and the end of 2026, when all customs procedures will be fully digitalised.

Activ, a complementary app to Passar, experienced a further increase in use in 2023 (+180%). Activ enables customs declarations to be activated automatically at the border, thereby making it possible to use specific fast-track lanes if no checks are notified by the application.

With regard to the collection of charges, the most striking innovation was undoubtedly the e-vignette (electronic toll sticker). The 2023 e-vignette was launched on 1 August last year and mainly concerned vehicles registered abroad. Around 250 000 units were sold. In Switzerland, the real launch of the e-vignette took place between 1 December 2023 and 31 January 2024. During this period, the FOCBS sold more than 2 million 2024 e-vignettes.

In tourist traffic, the QuickZoll app remained popular with travellers. The number of declarations made and the levies paid by smartphone rose by almost 30% in 2023.
