With the DaziT program, the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) is revamping its entire IT landscape. Based on a uniform cloud native architecture, over 30 new specialist applications consisting of more than 250 microservices have been put into operation. Less known is how DaziT has built a highly automated development platform in the background that generates great value with high-cost efficiency on the one hand and high security, quality, and stability on the other.
Complete boilerplate tasks in less than an hour
A key success factor of the DaziT program was the creation of an internal developer platform, that consists of main components: Nivel, jEAP, and Quadrel. The Nivel cloud platform enables the rapid, fully automated provisioning of the basic infrastructure for new business applications (infrastructure as code). jEAP and Quadrel build on this to allow all necessary non-functional requirements—such as security, monitoring, or user experience—to be assembled in a modular software structure. All the groundwork for new applications is completed in less than an hour, allowing development teams to focus on their core business and technical benefits without delay.
Success factor with potential for reuse
The central development platform for DaziT was developed in collaboration with the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT). After proving its worth at FOCBS, it is now available to the broader federal administration as an open-source solution for further use. In addition to its original objectives, DaziT thus generates a real «bonus benefit» for other digitization projects within the federal government.
