Classification enquiries for spirits and alcoholic products WITHOUT tariff enquiries

For spirits and alcoholic products, a request for classification information according to alcohol legislation can be submitted to the FOCBS.

Classification information can be requested using the form «Information on classification according to the Alcohol Act» which should be sent by email to [e-mail] together with the required documents. Please include «Classification request» in the subject line.

Those submitting requests are required to provide all necessary information, including any information that requires laboratory analysis, before sending their classification requests. If samples are required, the FOCBS will request them as necessary.

Provided that the required information is complete, the information will usually be provided within 20 days.

From a legal perspective, written classification information does not constitute a decision. It therefore does not contain any instructions on legal remedies and is not subject to appeal.

 

Classification enquiries for spirits and alcoholic products WITH tariff enquiries

If those submitting a request wish to import or export spirits or alcoholic products and require tariff information in addition to classification information according to alcohol legislation, they can apply to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security FOCBS for binding customs tariff information. Provided that the required information is complete, the information will usually be provided within 40 days.
