With NMTS, you can register for the performance-related heavy vehicle charge (LSVA/toll) for journeys in Switzerland and pay online.
Entering Switzerland (registering)
Registration for the LSVA must be done before entry into Switzerland (up to 5 days beforehand); this is best done via the transport company (office).
Go to www.nmts.ch.
Please enter the following information:
- Country of vehicle registration
- Registration number
- EURO emission class
- Permissible total weight of the vehicle combination in kilos (according to the vehicle's registration documents)
- Dates of entry and exit
- Distance in kilometres
Payment options:
- Electronic: credit cards and fuel cards
- Cash: pay at the Customs counter upon entry. Cash payments are not possible at all border crossings.
Recommendation: enter an email address to obtain a copy of the registration.
Tickets/receipts do not have to be presented at the border (customs post).
Contact your company (office). Swiss Customs does not perform registrations at the border.
Exiting Switzerland
If the registration is correct and valid, you do not have to do anything when exiting Switzerland. Tickets/receipts do not have to be presented at the border (customs post).
If necessary, you can adjust the total weight (kg) and the distance (km) before you exit:
- Total weight: only upward adjustments are possible (more weight)
- Distance: both upward and downward adjustments are possible (either more or fewer kilometres)
To do this, go to www.nmts.ch and click on the ticket symbol at the top right. You can use the pencil symbol to edit the registration.
Please note the following deadlines
- For cash payments: adjustment and payment of any additional amount at the Customs counter before exiting
- For electronic payment methods (credit cards/fuel cards): adjustment online up to 5 days after exiting
Fully automatic recording of the LSVA (toll): switch to the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) or to NETS now: link.
FAQ
Registration can be done up to 5 days before entry. It is best to do this via the transport company (office). Before you enter Switzerland, the registration can be changed or cancelled without restriction.
The webshop contains a route planner (link). Enter the entry and exit locations, together with any stopover locations, and enter the indicated distance in kilometres in the field. If the distance you have travelled is different (shorter/longer), you can adjust the number of kilometres in the webshop before exiting.
You must enter the total weight of the vehicle combination (towing vehicle + trailer) in kilogrammes, according to the vehicle's registration documents (max. 40,000kg):
- For lorries: total weight of towing vehicle + total weight of trailer
- For articulated lorries: unloaded weight of towing vehicle + total weight of semi-trailer
- For solo vehicles: always the total weight
If you change the vehicle combination and attach a heavier trailer or semi-trailer during the journey, you must adjust the declared weight in the webshop before exiting. The weight can only be adjusted upwards (more weight). When adjustments are made, the highest used weight applies for the entire journey.
Activate the function "I do not have a standard registration number" and enter the number plate again.
At the end of the registration, click on "Share". An email is generated which you can use to send the link. You can also copy the link and send it by text message or messenger service. The driver can then click on this link and the registration will appear on their smartphone. Tickets/receipts do not have to be presented at the border (customs post). The registration only needs to be sent if the driver intends to pay cash at the border.
Yes. Before you enter Switzerland, the registration can be changed or cancelled. Upon entry, the registration is activated: after that, you can no longer cancel the registration. You can only adjust the total weight and the distance. If you are paying cash, you must perform any adjustments at the border crossing (customs post) before exiting. If you are using an electronic payment method (credit card/fuel card), you can perform adjustments yourself in the webshop up to 5 days after exiting.
In the webshop, click on the ticket symbol at the top right. You can use the pencil symbol to edit the registration.
In the webshop, click on the ticket symbol at the top right. Now you can manually enter the number of the registration in the search field. If you no longer have the number, contact the FOCBS by email (see the contact box on the right) and provide the lorry's number plate and the date of entry.
You can only cancel registrations up until the time you enter Switzerland. If you record a registration for entry on the same day, the registration is activated immediately and can no longer be cancelled. After that, you can only adjust the weight and distance.
Try again later. You can record the registration right up until the time you exit Switzerland. If the webshop is still not working at this time, please go to the counter at the customs post of exit. Dispatchers (office) with questions regarding support can contact the FOCBS (see the contact box on the right).
No. The electronic registration is the important thing. Tickets/receipts do not have to be presented at the border (customs post). In the event of a check/inspection, the electronic registration also applies.
With electronic payment methods, the reserved amount is higher than the announced toll amount. The final amount is not calculated until you exit Switzerland. This final amount is charged and the reserved amount is cancelled.
Cash payments are possible only at border crossings that are staffed (list of customs offices). You must go the customs office counter when you enter Switzerland, and also when you exit if you have made any subsequent adjustments. This may lead to waiting times. We recommend using an electronic payment method (credit card/fuel card).
No. The data must be entered from scratch for each registration. EETS or NETS offers fully automatic declaration of the LSVA. More information
